Another sign of our growing globality . . .

Western oil companies have taught the rest of the world the valuable lessons of hanging on to their own oil.

So, now, instead of sitting around pouting about what to do with their outrageous profits, why not chart new territory (and continue to be a world leader) and invest in developing outrageously efficient and inexpensive solar panels to cover the roofs of the world? Or an electric-car highway system?

It's too bad their inability to think outside the box is exactly what's going to continue to keep America treading oil while the rest of the world catches up and then surpasses her. We are not all Michael Phelps, I guess.

PS Interesting to note that one of the top ten holders of petroleum reserves is Iran.

In the interest of balanced reporting or to appeal to their varied readership, or maybe even very subtly underscore one of the themes of China’s opening ceremony for the Olympics, the NYT offers these objective reports:

The OC is drinking its own commode water:

And, if they used it to make ice, would probably be among the most crystal-clear and tasteless cubes out there:

Or, if it had fallen from the sky as clean as it comes out of the purification plant, may have at least delayed the demise of one more iconic photo subject:

At least there are 1,999 left.

Everything is connected.
